The Access Committee is a new group at the Mazamas which will work with local, state, regional and national partners to address access issues throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington. TKO/Mazamas Work Party at Clackamas Riverside Trail

Mazamas partner Trail Keepers of Oregon is hosting a trail work party at Clackamas Riverside Trail Saturday, May 11. This work party will focus on trail restoration and maintenance on the Clackamas Riverside Trail near the Riverside Campground. We will be fixing a slide area, trail erosion, and fixing the trail bed that has become overgrown. The work will be on about a 2-mile section of trail starting from the Riverside Campground and heading north. The campground opens in early May if you want to extend this into an overnight or just come for the day! Register here.

Risk Management Committee

Risk Management Committee is in need of new members and a new Chairperson!

The Mazamas Risk Management Committee (RMC) is responsible for ensuring continuous improvement in the safety and well-being of all persons participating in Mazama activities. To do so, the RMC responds to incidents and makes recommendations for preventative measures.

RMC members should have experience in one or more of the climbing or skiing schools, or in leading outing/expedition groups. Members should also be familiar with, or interested in learning about, risk management best practices in outdoor recreation.

Any candidate interested in the Chairperson position should also have experience managing a team and running meetings.

The RMC meets the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm at the MMC. If interested, please contact Sandra Volk, svolk55(at)gmail.com.

Do these names sound familiar? Each is one of our Skillbuilders, focused courses designed to teach specific skills through one evening of lecture and one or two days of field practice.

The Education Committee is looking for a few people to serve as members of a subcommittee to oversee the Skillbuilder program and support the Skillbuilder instructors in developing and running their courses.

Skillbuilders offer a great opportunity to bring creative new programming to the Mazamas, contact the Education Committee, education(at)mazamas.org, if you are interested in helping out.

Do you eagerly await the Mazama Bulletin each month? Do you enjoy not only the content, but thinking about how the design, layout and editing occurs? Consider becoming part of the process by joining the Publications Committee! Our committee is seeking additional members to help with our publications - the Mazama Annual, Bulletin, Mazama Blog and e-newsletter.

Candidates should be people who enjoy our publications and want to see them expand in interest and scope!

Youth Climb Camp

June 11, 13, 18, 20 and 22

Hey Climb Leaders and Advanced Rock grads - we need you to introduce the next generation of climbers to our sport!

The Mazamas is expanding our educational and programming opportunities for youth and families. This summer we will be running a Youth Climb Camp for kids ages 12-17.

The camp will consist of 4 two-hour sessions out of the MMC and one climb session at the Source Rock Gym in Vancouver.

We need experienced climbers to assist with instruction of this course. Your job will be to work one-on-one with a student, helping them to learn how to:
• belay,
• properly tie in with a figure eight,
• use proper safety commands,
• climb on top route using basic technique terminology; and
• have an appreciation for the sport of climbing
