Join our partners at the Mount Saint Helens Institute for the 7th Annual Weed Rodeo: stewardship work, live music and an interpretive hike!
Saturday, June 29th marks the 7th Annual Weed Rodeo sponsored by the Mount St. Helens Institute (MSHI) and the US Forest Service. Come help us remove scotch broom and other noxious weeds near Coldwater Lake.
Volunteer registration begins at 10 a.m. at the Coldwater Lake Boat Launch; please bring gloves, boots, long pants, lunch and water.
Hard hats and safety glasses will be provided for the project, which ends at 4 p.m.
Following the Weed Rodeo, volunteers are invited to attend "Music on the Mountain" at Johnson Ridge Ampitheater. The band "Sassparilla" will be providing high energy, vocal harmonies and danceable music for all ages from 6:30-8 p.m. Bring a picnic dinner.
On Sunday the 30th, volunteers are invited for a 9 a.m. guided hike with Monument Scientist Peter Frenzen.
Directions to the Coldwater Lake Boat Launch: From
Interstate 5, take exit 49 (Castle Rock, State Route 504 East) and travel 43
miles east on State Route 504. Follow the signs to Johnston Ridge. As the
road descends to the valley floor, watch for the left turn to Coldwater Lake.
Bear left to the boat launch parking lot.
